I fear my expectations remain too high on Brooks Koepka. Whereas it was easy a year ago to write him off as another LIV fading star, the return to the PGA Tour brought with it a renewed attitude from Brooks.
He carried himself again with the swagger of the guy who once said only “has to beat about three to five guys” at a major.
Yet here we are in July and the results have really not added up. A handful of finishes just outside the top 10, including the Masters and Players Championship, but no real runs at a win.
I really thought Shinnecock Hills would be his kind of game, and he missed the cut. He started today at Royal Birkdale even par, missed a birdie putt on No. 1 and has bogeyed the second.
Again, it feels stuck in neutral. Does that gear still exist?
